Why a new website? The previous site, RavennaVentures.com, was 5 years old and overdue for an update.

Why a new company identity? That’s a longer story.

When I set-up the company in 1993, I was looking for a business name that reflected something about myself and had a pleasant sound. Living near beautiful Ravenna Park on the edge of the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle, lead to the phrase Ravenna Ventures. At the time I didn’t want a name that was too specific. That, over time, has created some confusion. Was I a venture capitalist or did I run a travel agency? I even had one call from someone looking for the location of the “rave,” thinking that I was using some sort of code for producing wild parties!

A year ago, I had the opportunity to work with Peg Marckworth who helped me define my business identity, how that fit with my core values, how I like to work and how I would like to present that work to the world. The process was intense and fun! This web site is one of the net results of that process.

Why Aventurine Music? Again, it was the sound of the word that lead me. I came across aventurine in a book on gemstones, and appreciated the musicality of the word and and it’s alliterative relationship to Ravenna Ventures and adventure. It may not be a perfect name – I still have to spell it out, but it’s the name I’ve chosen for this adventure!
